Stanley G. Peckham, 98, a longtime resident of Smyrna, passed away early Friday morning, February 24, 2017, at the Community Memorial Hospital of Hamilton.

Stan was born on January 9, 1919 in Smyrna the son of Adelbert and Louise (Barber) Peckham. He grew up in Smyrna and attended both the Smyrna and Sherburne schools. Once out of school he remained in Smyrna going to work to help support the family. On January 10 1942 in Clearwater, FL he married Mary Magdalene Baker who passed away July 9, 2004. Soon after, he entered the United States Air Force where he served his country until his honorable discharge in 1945. Returning home Stan and Magdalene took up permanent residence in Smyrna. While making their home in Smyrna Stan was employed by the Smyrna Creamery and in 1962 his work called him to Oxford where he went to work for the Chenango Valley Farmers Co-Op which eventually became Dairyman's League. Following his retirement and not a man to sit idle, Stan took up employment with Chenango County where he worked at the Chenango County Office building as a general maintenance man from which he retired in 1980. Stan continued to make his home in Oxford until recent years when he moved back to his hometown of Smyrna.

Stan was a quiet man who had a ready smile, pleasing personality and an easy going way. He loved to chat, remember the good ol days and was always ready for a good time or a good meal. He was recently honored as an 80 year member of the Smyrna Fire Dept. and was also a lifelong member of the Smyrna United Methodist Church. Stan will be missed by many of his lifelong friends in Smyrna and the surrounding area who he considered his family.

Stan is survived by his daughter Judith Ann (Judi) Peckham of Hollywood, CA, his nephew Donald Baker of Smyrna along with several other nieces, nephews and many friends in Smyrna and the surrounding area.

Stan was predeceased by his wife Mary Magdalene (Maggie), his siblings Ruth Onan, Gertrude Peckham, Mildred Webb, Richard Peckham, Carl Peckham and Earl Peckham.

A funeral service for Stan will be held on Friday, March 17, at Noon from the Smyrna United Methodist Church. The Rev. George Gallandorm, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will at Sherburne West Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Friends may call at the Smyrna United Methodist Church on Friday from 10-12.
